Hostile Architecture in Downtown Pittsburgh
Hostile architecture is a common practice in urban areas where city developers place spikes, slopes, or bars to make it impossible or uncomfortable to homeless people to rest there. For my final project in a photography class, I documented these structures.
Catatoneya – “Nobody Cares” Music Video.
For one of the assignments in the Video Production & Editing course I took in 2018, we were given free reign to film and edit a 90 second high-effort video of anything we chose. I decided to make a music video for my friend’s band, Catatoneya. I also designed their album artwork, which can be seen on my Illustration page. We were instructed not to use any motion shots and to not have shots appear on screen for longer than 7 seconds in editing.
My class borrowed video camera kits from Point Park University’s student production services, and I unfortunately ended up taking one with faulty batteries. I had to film half of the band’s performance a week later, so I made sure they were wearing the same clothes for continuity’s sake when I returned.
At the end of 2019, the band put out their album “Growth” with an improved version of “Nobody Cares”. In 2020, I threw together a video using the new audio. It was at a different tempo so syncing the footage to the new audio was a bit challenging.
News Style Interview Videos
In 2018, I had two courses that with very similar projects. Video Production & Editing and Intro to Multimedia both had assignments where we were instructed to film and edit an interview in the style of a news show. This entailed having a lower third graphic, lots of B-roll, and natural sound in the background. The actual interview subject was only supposed to be on screen for less than 10 seconds. I chose to talk to a rapper and a drummer about their individual journeys as musicians.
